Perhaps the first question that arises in a girl’s mind when she receives a marriage proposal is what wedding dress to choose? Every bride wants to be a real queen at her celebration, so this question is really important and exciting.
Of course, you’ll listen to a hundred tips on choosing a wedding dress from family and friends while you’re looking for that one thing. We’d like to get a little ahead of ourselves and tell you how to choose a wedding dress, using examples of the most common mistakes brides make.
1. A large “support group” at the fitting
Choosing a wedding dress is a responsible business. But don’t involve too many people in the process. Imagine everyone vying with each other saying that this dress is beautiful, but that one does not suit you, or worse, opinions differ. How not to be confused? Shouts of delight and sighs of admiration can be confusing and can lead away from the bride’s own wishes. Of course, an outside view is important, and that is why it is better to take one or two people, no more. They will be objective and put your interests first.
2. Buying a dress too early
If you start trying on dresses a year before the wedding, the likelihood of falling in love with one of them is very high. And the thought that your only dress might be bought will not give you peace of mind. Choose a dress when you already have enough money to buy it and when you know the other details of the wedding. After all, from the place of celebration and its style and theme also depends a lot! Agree, a ball gown will be inappropriate, for example, for a beach wedding, and the dress in the Greek style will not be suitable for a vintage ceremony.
3. Too many dresses you’ve tried on
Usually women choose between four or five main contenders for the role of “that” dress. And in total, it is better to measure no more than 10-15 outfits, otherwise, as they say, eyes will scatter. In an endless race for the perfect dress you may simply not consider it among dozens of others, each of which is unique in its own way.
4. Deceptive discounts
Don’t rush into a designer dress at a big discount – a mistake many brides make when dreaming of an expensive dress of a certain brand. No argument, it is indeed possible to buy for a modest amount of money a dress that actually costs two or even three times as much. But before you make a purchase, carefully check the goods for defects and make sure you won’t have to spend money on hemming and dry-cleaning. Otherwise, the whole point of the discount will be lost.
5. Wrong size
Many brides plan to lose weight before the wedding and want to buy a dress size smaller, so that there is extra incentive to lose weight. Such a decision is fundamentally wrong! In any case buy the size that suits you at the moment.
And do not forget that the size range of different brands and brands is different. If you have always worn a size 44, but the wedding dress of this size is too small for you, and the consultant in the salon advises to take the 46-th size – take it into account. Do not attach too much importance to the number on the label; the most important thing is the fit. If the dress suddenly becomes too big, it will be much easier to sew it than the other way around. A corset with lacing will solve all the problems of a slight “plus” or “minus” in volume.
6. Focusing on one style
It is very common for brides to leave the salon with a dress that is not at all what they dreamed of, or what they think suits them best. It’s great to have an idea of the style and style of dress you want. But don’t get hung up on just such options. Experienced consultants in the salon will offer an alternative if the dress you came for is not quite for you. Do not refuse – as they say, they don’t take money for the fitting. Perhaps after putting on a completely different dress you’ll realize that this is THE dress!
7. Buying a dress you don’t like
This can happen if you are put under undue pressure. Often mothers who buy dresses for their young daughters dictate their rules simply because they pay. Or a bride may succumb to the very persistent persuasion of a friend and buy the dress she likes.
If you are tempted to buy a dress you don’t like, don’t give in! It is better to choose not such an expensive outfit, but buy it with your own money or take it in installments. And about your friend’s entreaties – well, it’s your wedding after all.
8. Trying on dresses you can’t afford
If you know what your wedding dress budget is, only try on outfits that fit within it. Otherwise, the biggest disappointment may be waiting for you. There’s nothing worse than falling in love with a dress that’s too expensive: you’ll compare everything afterwards to it and be upset that they’re not as good.
9. Additional expenses
You shouldn’t forget about them, either, when you outline the budget for your wedding look. If you order a dress online or from a catalog in a salon, it may happen that it needs to be adjusted a little bit to fit, and this is an additional expense. Plus shipping.
10. Choosing a salon
Before choosing a dress, you also need to choose a bridal salon. If you are looking for a particular brand or dress from a particular designer, first find out the addresses of official representatives of this brand. Otherwise you run the risk of buying a fake. For the same reason do not buy dresses “from hand” and on dubious sites.
