Choosing The Perfect Wedding Shoe

With so many decisions to make when it comes to your wedding day, who wants to spend time thinking about what shoes they’re going to wear? Oh that’s right, you do! Picking out the perfect pair of shoes to match a given outfit any day of the week can be fun, and at times exhausting, but now you’re trying to pick the perfect wedding shoes for the perfect day, what a challenge! But you’ve never been one to shy away from a good challenge, especially when it comes to shoes. Below are some tips on how to make this challenge just a little easier (and a little more fun) and how to take the stress out something that should be a great time

Keep your dress in mind when shopping for your shoes:  Obviously you want your shoes to coordinate with your dress. If you can’t find the shoes you want the day that you find your dress, make sure that you keep photos of your dress on you so that when the perfect pair do strike your eye, you can determine if they’re the right fabric, color, style, etc. If your dress has a lacier, delicate feel to it, you may want to skip on those chunky crystals or heavy heels, go with something that is more lady-like in its design. But if your dress is loud and bold, by all means, go all out and have fun with your shoes! Don’t be afraid to add a touch of color.

Don’t go alone: Take someone with you that knows you well. Someone who won’t be afraid to tell you “no” if a pair aren’t the perfect fit for you. Finding the perfect pair of shoes takes time, and at the end of the day you can find yourself exhausted and just wanting to break down and say yes to whatever pair you see next in order to get this over with. Bring a friend or bridesmaid with you who can help prevent this from happening and help make sure you go home happy.

Keep it comfortable: Depending on where your wedding is being held, you are more than likely going to want a pair of shoes that you can stay in for an entire day. Remember, you’re not only going to be walking down the aisle in these shoes, you’re also going to be standing in them for a while as you receive guests and later on, you’ll be dancing in them.  If you are getting married on the grass or at the beach, consider a wedge or a flat.  If you find yourself on cobble stones, grass or gravel it would make more sense to wear a shoe with a wider heel instead of a skinny or stiletto heel for more stability.  Many brides choose two shoes for their wedding day; one, the drop dead gorgeous shoe that you love and the other, a more comfortable shoe for dancing the night away. No matter how comfortable your shoes are, make sure that you are prepared with numerous types of shoe pads, a little extra comfort goes a long way when you’ve been on your feet since 4am.

Practice, practice, practice: Once you do find a pair of shoes that you absolutely love, make sure that you practice wearing them prior to the big day. This ensures that your shoes are properly broken in for when it is their time to shine. This also gives you a sense of how long you can withstand the shoes if they are a different style than you are used to wearing. Wear them around your house when you have the chance, but make sure that you don’t wear them outside in order to keep them pristine. Also, if you are the type of couple that plans on showing off your new dance moves in front of everyone for your first dance, be sure that you wear your new shoes to the dance lessons; otherwise that first dance is going to be awfully tricky.

No matter which wedding shoe you end up choosing, make sure that you’re not just settling for a pair because you are short on time or just want the process to be over with. Remember, these are the shoes that you’re going to be wearing on a day you are going to remember for the rest of your life.
